Authorities continue to work along with Hopkinsville Solid Waste employees to extinguish a large trash fire Saturday morning.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Deputy Fire Marshal Nathan Stewart says they were called just after 2 for a large trash fire at the Hopkinsville landfill and requested help from the Crofton Fire Department as they worked to contain the fire.

As of 8 am the fire continues to burn as firefighters and employees of the Hopkinsville Solid Waste work to extinguish and cover the trash.

Christian County Emergency Manager Randy Graham says the Kentucky Department For Environmental Protection is also assisting.

Stewart says no structures are in any danger and it’s unclear at this time how long it will take to extinguish the fire.
