The Caldwell County Extension Office is encouraging cattle producers in the area to participate in a post-weaning value adding program through the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Beef Network.
Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources Shane Bogle says the PVAP – Precondition Program is being offered through support from a grant through the Kentucky Ag Development Fund.
He adds the objective of the program is to encourage cow-calf producers who have never weaned and preconditioned calves on the farm to retain ownership and capture added value from their investment through diversified marketing strategies.
Bogle states the procedures for the program are quite simple.
He notes the program will also outline how to work, weigh, and wean calves using CPH-45.
Bogle notes producers will earn $30 a head, up to $1,000, for completing the program.
