With planting and growing season quickly approaching, officials with the John L. Street Library have announced a new program: The John L. Street Seed Library.
Now one of several book depositories in Kentucky participating in the “Seed Library Consortium,” interested families are encouraged to stop by during regular hours for a free bag of seeds to start an effective garden.
One bag per household contains 35 different varieties of seeds for vegetables, flowers and herbs — including three types of bush beans, little finger carrots, two types of cucumbers, five types of flowers, five types of greens, three types of herbs, watermelons, onions, two types of summer squash and 11 types of tomatoes.
The seeds are grown by True Leaf Market and Eden Brothers.
Supplies are limited, so one should visit soon. When seeds are picked up, they’re entered into a prize drawing for a gardening tool set.
Co-op student, Trigg County High School’s Ashley Geary, “worked hard” over the last few months sorting seeds to put the bags together.
