New Leadership For Janice Mason Art Museum

With the retirement of longtime servant of the arts Joan Demers, the Janice Mason Art Museum and its Board of Directors have gone a familiar direction for new leadership.

Long-time board member Leida Tackett was recently promoted to the executive director position, and alongside her will be art aficionado Mackenzie Stone as an assistant and co-director.

Apart they possess their own skills, but it’s together Tackett said she looks forward to the most.

Tackett moved here 30 years ago and bought the Cadiz Florist, and for 20 of those years has been involved in the Janice Mason Art Museum and its growth. The former Cadiz Post Office is celebrating its 25th year as a bastion of local, regional, national and international art in 2023, and last Friday opened its gallery to the talents of Trigg County’s elementary and intermediate students.

She’s seen these developments firsthand.

Aside from being a successful museum, the location frequently hosts art classes for many ages and even more mediums.

Tackett said two new experiences are being added this year, including a “welt felting” class with fairy dolls and another from Princeton’s Suellen Claggett. She also noted that being able to meet the needs of the earnest public remains an important mission to the museum.

Bringing in out-of-area shows is great, but Tackett said highlighting local talent brings about great pride in the organization.
