Christian County 4th graders learned about farm safety while visiting with business and organization representatives.
The Progressive Farm Safety Days took place Tuesday and Wednesday at the Christian County Extension Office, where Susan Turner told Your News Edge the program is hosted by the Christian County 4-H group.
Johnson had help coordinating the event by Christian County High School Ag teacher Victoria Mohon.
Turner, who lives in Tompkinsville, is the Outreach Specialist for the Progressive Agriculture Foundation. She added it’s important for youth to learn safety skills.
Joseph Cates, a lifeguard at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Family YMCA, spent the morning demonstrating water safety skills.
One of those demonstrations included a lifesaving skill Cates learned during his training to become a lifeguard.
Pennyrile Rural Electric crew members were on-hand to show off high-voltage demonstrations, while Hutson, Inc. employees shared tractor safety tips. Others on hand included: employees from Marmic Fire & Safety, students from Gateway Academy, as well as members of Christian County and Hopkinsville High School FFA chapters, and the Christian County 4-H.
Members of the Kentucky FFA and 4-H chapters were also in attendance.
