Christian County’s May unemployment rate was 4.8-percent which was a tenth of a percent higher than the same month last year.
According to information from the Kentucky Center for Statistics, Christian County’s civilian labor force in May was 25,231 with 1,221 people actively seeking work. In May of last year, Christian County’s labor force was 375 less people with 318 more people working this year than last.
Meanwhile in Trigg County, the jobless rate in May was 4.3-percent compared to 4.1 percent last year. Trigg County’s civilian labor force in May was 6,090 with 263 people actively seeking work. Compared to last year, Trigg County’s labor force has increased by 65 people with 51 more people working.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in 96 counties between May 2022 and May of this year and fell in 22.
Carroll County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.8%. It was followed by Spencer and Woodford counties, at 3% each.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 8.9%. It was followed by 10 eastern Kentucky counties.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
