A Princeton native killed in the line of duty in Marshall County last year will have a training facility named in his honor.
Governor Andy Beshear broke ground on a new Department of Criminal Justice Training facility in Richmond Monday morning that honors Jody Cash, who was killed in the line of duty on May 16, 2022, while serving as chief deputy of the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office.
The Jody Cash Multipurpose Training Facility will be a 42,000-square-foot facility with a 50-yard, 30-lane firing range designed for officers to learn intensive and specialized training. Construction is expected to be completed in 2025.
The new center will support training for most of Kentucky’s law enforcement agencies.
Cash graduated from the police academy as part of Class 278 and was valedictorian of the Kentucky State Police Academy Class 89. He was a 22-year law enforcement veteran, beginning his law enforcement career at the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and went on to serve with the Murray State University Police and the Kentucky State Police, where he retired as a sergeant before joining the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office.
Members of the Cash family, as well as state and local officials and staff from the Department of Criminal Justice Training, were on hand for the special ceremony.
