The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department, the Christian County Chamber of Commerce, and Ward 1 Councilmember Natasha Francis will host a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony Friday for the Kenneth A. Bates Community Center.
The ceremony will celebrate the renaming of the 2nd Street Community Center after the late Bates, a former Christian County magistrate. The event is open to the public and will feature speeches from Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight, Christian County District 1 Magistrate Magaline Ferguson, and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam.
Squire Bates was a highly respected member of the Hopkinsville community, serving on various boards and committees and hosting various radio programs throughout his life. He passed away Tuesday, February 14, at the age of 71, after battling a brief illness.
The community center is located at 745 East 2nd Street in Hopkinsville.
