A Crofton man saddled with a litany of charges stemming from a March 3 high-speed pursuit in Christian County may soon know his fate.
During Wednesday’s morning docket of Christian County Circuit Court, Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen told Judge John Atkins that a tendered amended offer for Joshua Smith is on the way.
Atkins set the next pre-trial conference for 8:30 AM August 16.
On the day of the incident, Smith was on Old Madisonville Road in a stolen vehicle, maintaining speeds more than 100 mph.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips, and the vehicle reportedly hit Sheriff Tyler DeArmond’s vehicle and narrowly missed Lt. Scott Smith — who was on foot during the pursuit. It caused him to take evasive action.
The car overturned, Smith attempted to flee, and he was quickly apprehended.
His charges include attempted murder of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, speeding 26 mph or greater, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, failure to maintain proper insurance, receiving stolen property $10,000 or greater, possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and unspecified drugs, as well as three counts of probation violation on a felony offense.
