The Cadiz Police Department has a recent graduate of the police academy in its ranks following the graduation of Officer Brian Carroll last week.

Carroll was part of the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s 20-week academy class where major training areas included patrol procedures, physical training, vehicle operations, defensive tactics, criminal law, traffic and DUI, firearms, criminal investigations, cultural awareness, and bias-related crimes.

Carroll received the Class Leader Award for his leadership and mentoring of other recruits; the Fit for Duty Award for scoring in the 80th percentile on the exit physical fitness test; and the Recruit of Distinction Award, which requires the officer to obtain a 95% average or higher on all exams and course material.

Carroll is a retired Sergeant Major from the U. S. Army where he honorably served 27 years. He was selected early on as Class 540’s Class Leader during the first week of training.

Cadiz Interim Police Chief Tyler Thomas said Carroll will begin his Field Training immediately and will be paired up with multiple training officers over the course of the next 10-12 weeks before he is released to solo patrol.
