Governor Andy Beshear announced Friday afternoon that G.L. Ovey, Jr., of Eddyville, will replace the expired term of Don Tharpe on the Murray State University’s Board of Regents.
On tap until July 9, 2029, Glycon Lee Ovey is the former Commonwealth’s attorney for the 56th Judicial Circuit — which serves Caldwell, Livingston, Lyon and Trigg counties.
For more than two decades, he handled prosecution in the heart of the Pennyrile, and presently he is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky and the 56th Judicial Circuit Bar Associations.
He also presently serves as a member of the Character and Fitness Committee of the Kentucky Office of Bar Admissions.
Alongside Ovey, Beshear appointed Murray’s Matthew Price, M.D., to replace Brandon Edmiston, whose appointment was not confirmed by the Senate. Price is the medical director for women’s health at Murray Calloway County Hospital, and he will serve the remainder of the unexpired term ending June 30, 2027.

— Vice Chair Virginia Gray, senior manager of government relations for TVA
— Staff Regent Dr. Jessica Evans, director of assessment and accreditation for the college of education and human services at MSU
— Dr. Robbie Fitch, a general dentist and native of Murray
— Student Regent Ellie McGowan, a graduate of Crittenden County High School and Fredonia native
— Dr. David Meinschein, Livingston County school superintendent
— Emily Roark, head of the Bryant Law Center and its Mass Tort Division
— Faculty Regent Dr. Melony Shemberger, an associate professor of journalism and mass communications at MSU
— And Tom Waldrop, real estate extraordinaire
