Funeral services for 84-year-old Argyle “Sonny” Ray Powers, Jr., of Cadiz, will be noon Friday at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Thurman-Powers Family Cemetery in Cadiz.
Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the funeral hour.
Survivors include:
Wife of 45 years, Linda Burbank Powers, of Cadiz;
Sons, Charlie Baxter, of West Virginia, Ray Powers, of Kentucky, Robert Calloway, of Cadiz, and Claude “Bucko” Baxter, also of Cadiz;
Daughters, Phyllis Matheny (Bill), of Baltimore, Lacie Thurman (Barry), of Cadiz, KY, and Christy Swearinger, of South Carolina;
Brother, Delbert Powers, of Ohio;
Sisters, Linda Thomas (Randy), of Kentucky, Penny Hightower, of Tennessee, and Jenny Wiseman (Bill), of West Virginia;
14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
President Patrick Wright is officiating.
He died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his home of natural causes.
He was born in Clarksburg, WV, on October 12, 1939, the son of the late Argyle Ray Powers, Sr., and Sylvia Summers Powers.
He was an iron worker for the local 787 and served in the United States Army Reserves. He loved motorcycles and cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Jimmy Fallucco, and Stanley Baxter; and his brothers, Burhl Powers, Clyde Powers, and Mike Powers.
