With planning for next year’s race already underway, proceeds of this year’s Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K were doled out to a pair of thankful co-benefactors Monday morning at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex.

Parks & Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson, in all, moved $6,000 each to the Christian County Rescue Team and Sanctuary, Inc. — two organizations that provide health, safety and awareness to south western Kentucky, and especially Hopkinsville and its surroundings.

Hudson noted the co-benefactor decision comes under advisement and guidance through the United Way Foundation, and that it’s just good to play a small, but important, part.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham said the Rescue Team can now address some specific equipment needs in the coming months.

An online survey of race participants determined this year’s winners for Water Stations and Cheer Team competitions.

Sponsored by Hopkinsville’s “Batter Capital of the World” slogans, it was Sanctuary, Inc., earning top honors for the 5K, and in the Half Marathon: Hopkinsville Lions Club was first, Pennyroyal Center was second and the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library was third.

The last five races have brought in more than $63,000 in donations to the county.
