Three Christian County police officers and one from Trigg County were among the 170 that were honored last week for their efforts to keep impaired drivers off Kentucky’s roads in the previous 12 months.
The Governor’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Awards was hosted by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Highway Safety in Lexington with more than 150 law enforcement agencies represented.
Officers were honored as those with the most impaired driving arrests in their agency between Oct. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023.
Christian County K9 Patrol Deputy Josh Strauch, Hopkinsville Police Detective Jonathan Knight, and Oak Grove Sergeant Mike Platero received the enforcement awards along with Trigg County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Joshua Oden.
According to the Office of Highway Safety, there were 4,127 total crashes involving an impaired driver in Kentucky last year which resulted in 1,990 injuries and 189 deaths.
The highway safety office, Kentucky State Police, and local law enforcement agencies will be partnering for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over holiday enforcement campaign between Dec. 13 and Jan. 1, watching for any moving hazardous violation, with an emphasis on impaired driving.
