The October jobless rate in Christian County inched up slightly in October compared to the previous month and the same month last year.
According to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, Christian County’s October unemployment rate was 5.5%, which was up four-tenths from September and nine-tenths higher than October of last year.
Christian, Todd, and Trigg were the only counties in the Pennyrile region to show an increase. Trigg’s rate of 4.6% was up a tenth from September and Todd’s rate of 3.9% was also up a tenth.
In the nine-county Pennyrile region, rates ranged from 3.4% in Caldwell County and 3.8% in Crittenden County to 5.6% in Muhlenberg County and 5.5% in Christian County.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in 31 counties between October of last year and this year, fell in 59, and remained the same in 30 counties.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.8%. It was followed by Carroll, Cumberland and Marion counties at 3% each.
Martin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 8%, followed by none other eastern Kentucky counties.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working.
