A Hopkinsville man charged with an August assault in a shooting incident entered a guilty plea to lesser charges in Christian County Circuit Court on Wednesday morning.
40-year-old Steven Black was charged with assault after a shooting on Vine Street on August 8. Hopkinsville Police said Samuel Sivils showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot claiming he had been shot by Black during an altercation.
Black pled guilty to an amended charge of first-degree wanton endangerment, down from a first-degree assault charge, and a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Commonwealth recommended four years in jail on each charge to run concurrently for a total of four years. Black was released on his own recognizance until his sentencing date but not before a stern warning from Circuit Judge John Atkins.
