Russell “Gene” Shanklin, age 92, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Shanklin was born in Ohio, on March 18, 1931, the son of the late Lindsey and Olive Nicholson Shanklin. He was a farmer and served at Square Deal Fire Department for over 20 years, as well as the United States Army. Gene was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church in Trigg County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Shanklin, Kenneth Shanklin, and Jessie Shanklin.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Jo Miller Shanklin of Hopkinsville, KY; his sons, Rusty Shanklin (Laura) of Pikeville, KY, Gary Shanklin (Stephanie Chudy) of Hopkinsville, KY; his daughter Sherri Tatham (Doug) of Florida; his sisters, Nadine Ellis of Hopkinsville, Carlyon Wyatt of Hopkinsville, Martha Bell Williams of Indiana, Sue Ducket of Florida, Mary Ann Roberts of Hopkinsville; his grandchildren, Alyssa Shanklin, Lindsey Shanklin, DJ Tatham, and David Tatham.
