Spikes Charged With Second 2021 Murder

Bobby Spikes, already in the Christian County Jail on a murder charge, has seen a second murder charge added following action by the Christian County grand jury.

In a superseding indictment handed down on Friday, Spikes is now charged with two counts of murder, two counts of first-degree robbery, and single counts of kidnapping, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Spikes, who had addresses listed in Hopkinsville and Princeton, was already charged with the December 2021 shooting death of Stanley Bussell at the Clearman Court home of Candace Marcel.

Hopkinsville Police found Bussell’s body and later in the day, Marcel was found dead in a vehicle in eastern Trigg County. The indictments said both Bussell and Marcel had been shot in the head.

While Spikes was originally charged with Bussell’s murder, no charges had been filed in Marcel’s death until investigators could determine in which jurisdiction she was killed.

Kentucky State Police has previously reported that Marcel allegedly lured Bussell to her Hopkinsville residence, where her boyfriend, Spikes, who was known to frequent the home, shot Bussell in the head.

The new charges said Spikes unlawfully restrained Marcel and did not release her alive. He is also charged with concealing or destroying a handgun believed to have been used in the murders.

Spikes and his attorney have repeatedly requested a bond reduction in Christian County Circuit Court only to be denied by Judge John Atkins each time.

Last month, Ohio County Commonwealth’s Attorney Blake Chambers was appointed the special prosecutor for the case. He told the court he needed more time to go through the evidence and speak with the families of the victims.

During the same January court appearance, Spikes told Judge Atkins that he wanted to fire his court-appointed attorney and expressed frustration at the pace of the proceedings.

Spikes’ bond was set at $1 million cash.
