Trial Date Set in Princess Theater Shooting

A trial date has been set for the three men charged in connection to a 2021 shooting outside the Princess Theater that left one person dead and another injured.

During Wednesday’s session of Christian County Circuit Court, Judge Andrew Self set a trial date of June 10.

Jaquavian Spencer and Zamarius Humphries are charged with first-degree assault, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Deovion Day is charged with murder, first-degree assault, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Hopkinsville Police and prosecutors said Spencer and Humphries began shooting at each other outside the Princess Theater in December 2021. Spencer was injured in the shooting with Day opening fire and striking Aniya Collins in the crossfire. Collins was pronounced dead at the scene while a second person was shot in the leg.

Spencer and Humphries are represented by attorney Sands Chewning who said he is continuing to negotiate with the Commonwealth on a plea agreement.

click to download audioLast month, Judge Andrew Self granted the Commonwealth’s motion to dismiss complicity to murder charges against Spencer and Humphries. However, he denied a bond reduction motion for the pair that prompted an outburst in court by Spencer. On Wednesday, Spencer offered the court an apology.
