Caldwell County’s girls used a strong fourth quarter to break a four-game losing streak Tuesday night.

Down 33-31 entering the final frame, the Lady Tigers outscored Murray 17-8 in the fourth period to pull out a 48-41 road victory.

It was a rare win over Murray for Caldwell. The blue-and-gold Lady Tigers had beaten Murray just once previously — and that came in December of 1981.

The schools have met just nine times in girls’ basketball. Murray had won the previous seven matchups.

Med Thomas had 11 points and Nyla Sykes had 10 as Caldwell spread out its scoring at Murray. Jakhia Copeland had nine points and Tink Clark had eight.

Mylee Smith had 14 points to lead Murray (7-16). Reese Downey had 10.

Caldwell (8-20) got off to a strong start on Tuesday, leading 13-6 after one period and taking a 26-16 advantage to halftime.

But Murray used a 17-5 advantage in the third quarter to grab the lead going into the final 8 minutes.

Caldwell’s girls will finish the regular season at home on Friday as part of a girls and boys doubleheader against Livingston Central.
