Laura Plappert has been appointed as the new warden of Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville, and becomes the second woman to hold the post.
Plappert fills the position left vacant by former warden Scott Jordan’s recent appointment to deputy commissioner.
Jordan praised Plappert’s dedication and hard work, stating that her promotion is a testament to her commitment to the Department of Corrections.
Plappert has served as deputy warden at the penitentiary since February of 2021, with previous experience as deputy warden at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex.
Plappert has been a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team and served as an Equal Employment Opportunity coordinator.
With a degree in criminal justice administration from Strayer University and a graduate of the Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program, Plappert is a longstanding member of the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency.
