A Hopkinsville man who was out on bond for two separate police pursuits last summer and then was arrested again in January after another short pursuit in a stolen vehicle was indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday afternoon on numerous drug trafficking charges and other offenses.
A true bill was returned on Earl Cook, Jr. on charges of trafficking an anabolic steroid, trafficking meth while armed, trafficking fentanyl while armed, trafficking marijuana while armed, wanton endangerment, using restricted ammunition during a felony no shots fired, fleeing and evading police on foot and in a vehicle, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property over $1,000 under $10,000 and three counts of criminal mischief.
On January 29, Cook is accused of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and was located by Christian County Sheriff’s deputies while they were taking the report. Deputies said he fled and attempted to hide behind the old Family Dollar on East 7th Street.
Deputies said Cook got pinned between a dumpster and a cruiser and tried to run away but was quickly apprehended.
According to deputies, Cook was found with suspected meth, over 100 doses of suspected fentanyl, an ounce of marijuana and a loaded 9mm handgun. Deputies also reportedly found a black bag on the ground just outside the driver’s door that contained four bottles of suspected liquid steroids and Anadrol.
Cook’s bond was lowered in Christian County Circuit Court on January 10 over the objection of Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy. Cook’s attorney informed the court that Cook’s grandmother agreed to put up a property bond to free him. The property, worth $179,000, was enough to cover Cook’s $25,000 cash bond.
