Could a passenger bus be coming for the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center?
Following a brief point from Judge-Executive Stan Humphries made during Monday night’s fiscal court session, it seems possible.
In compliance with Kentucky Revised Statute, magistrates opened with a public hearing centered on county road aid and local government economic assistance, or LGEA, funding — which Humphries noted is roughly typified as an $80,000 income line item each year.
Humphries also noted there were a “plethora” of options in front of magistrates for ways to spend such monies, but made a suggestion and reference to a potential partnership between county, city and Cadiz Rotary Club leadership.
Humphries pointed to LGEA legislature allowing concessions for public transportation, mass transit, streets, social services for poor and elderly with disabilities, as well as recreation. He also pointed to the fact that such a service has been requested by a number of Trigg County residents, who seek the confines and comforts of the Senior Citizens Center, but don’t have ample means to travel there as frequently as they would like.
More details could be coming through the 57th Annual Cadiz Rotary Radio Auction later this week.
In other court notes:
— Magistrates unanimously approved to add Harper House proprietor Nelson Green to the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism board. Her term retroactively began April 1 and ends in August 31, 2025, as she replaces Tammi Head.
— Magistrates unanimously approved for Realtor Beth Ricks to serve on the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning and Zoning Commission, replacing Ken Stallons retroactively to April 1 and ending March 31, 2028.
— Humphries stated that a pair of upcoming dates should be etched in everyone’s calendars. On April 25, an early-morning Cadiz-Trigg County Economic Development Council meeting overlaps the arrival of KCTCS President Dr. Ryan Qualls, who will attending a major breakfast at Hopkinsville Community College. Then, from 3-6 PM April 27, Genesis Express officials will be hosting their ribbon cutting for the new Intergenerational Center on Jefferson Street in Cadiz.
— While the repair of the Stone Road Bridge continues, Humphries said eyes could soon turn to another dangerous bridge in the community.
— Looking to find an architect for a new Trigg County Rescue facility, Humphries said four vendor requests have been turned in for the chance to earn design rights: Spurr Architecture in Hopkinsville, PFGW Architects out of Paducah, Hawkins Abney out of Beaver Dam, and JKS Architecture out of Hopkinsville.
Humphries added that since no numbers are being discussed at this time, the fiscal court’s Building & Grounds committee could convene at a later date and therefore make a recommendation back to the main body.
— Magistrates, along with Humphries, met for a brief executive session with no action taken. Blanket KRS was stated for the reasoning.
