Little River Heavily Crests Past Flood Stage

As of late Thursday afternoon, several roads in the News Edge listening area remained impassable due to flood conditions from record Wednesday rains.

This included Trigg County’s Glenwood Mill Road, King’s Chapel Road, and Energy Lake Dam — all of which are oft-traveled, busy thoroughfares for the community and region.

According to the National Weather Service, the May 8 total of 4.8 inches for Cadiz and Hopkinsville was the most ever for the May 8 calendar day since recording began, and it’s the most single-day rain for the two-county region since July 7, 2016.

For those wondering, the May single-day record is 5.37 inches, set in 1919.

With this downpour comes the rise of Little River, which as of 10:30 Thursday morning was seven inches above its 18-foot flood stage, and still six inches above flood stage at noon.

In recent memory, Little River has only been higher a handful of times: early February 1989, and large swells in both 2010 and 2011.
