There will be at least five new faces on Hopkinsville City Council following Tuesday’s primary election.
In the Ward One Republican primary, Vance Smith defeated incumbent Natasha Sophia Francis 16-8. He will face Democrat Markeeta Oldham Wilkerson in November.
In Ward 9, Brittanie Bogard defeated incumbent Jamie Lienberger 23-15 in the Republican race. Meanwhile, Angelique Victor outdistanced Ardell Owens and Monike Love with nearly 63 percent of the vote in the Ward 9 Democratic primary. Victor received 95 votes to 35 votes for Owens and 21 for Love. The November ballot will feature Bogard, Victor, and incumbent Duane Shepard.
In Ward 10, Michael Velez unseated Republican incumbent Steve Keel 46 votes to 34. Velez will face Democrat Andra Gold in November. She defeated Angelita Atkins 55-37.
In Ward 12, Elizabeth Draude beat Republican incumbent Matthew Handy 19-13. Draude will face Democrat Sam Goodman in November.
The Ward 7 primary race between Clayton Sumner and Mark Graham went to Sumner 139-28.
In Ward 4, Republican incumbent Chuck Crabtree held off a strong challenge from Faye Hendricks by four votes — 86-82.
Ward 5 incumbent Amy Craig beat challenger Shannon Trogden 57-36.
President Joe Biden easily carried Christian County in the Democratic primary with 64.5 percent of the vote, while former President Donald Trump easily won the Republican Primary with 86 percent of the vote.
3,208 voters turned out in Christian County Tuesday out of more than 50,000 registered voters.
