A grant awarded to the Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society will allow the group to make history more tangible for youngsters.

Speaking with Your News Edge before receiving the funding in Bowling Green Friday morning, President Bob Brame shared they were awarded over $5,500 from the Kentucky Colonels’ 2024 Good Works Program.

Member Linda Wood filed the grant application and it allows the group to purchase a wooden train set based on the former Cadiz Railroad. The idea stemmed from just one of Wood’s four children’s books she has written.

The grant funding was presented at the Barren River Area Development District office.

The group is trying several new ideas to get the community involved with their programming. A new addition, a series of Saturday events, with the next scheduled for July 6th at 10:00. It will feature guest speaker Derrick Lindow, an 8th-grade history teacher from Owensboro.

Lindow’s program will be based on his book ‘We Shall Conquer or Die: Partisan Warfare in 1862 Western Kentucky,’ a book about the Civil War.
