Robert Carver ‘Bobby’ Smithson, 78, of Christian County

Funeral services for 78-year-old Robert Carver “Bobby” Smithson, of Christian County, will be 10 AM Wednesday at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Tuesday.

Survivors include:
His wife, of 59 years: Brenda Rogers Smithson;
His sons: Roger Carver (Sheila) Smithson, and John William (Shahri) Smithson, both of Christian County;
His sisters: Mary Alice Simning, of Christian County, and Martha Lou (John) Schrecker, of Hopkinsville;
His grandchildren: Ryan Smithson, Kyle (Greghen) Smithson, Clayton (Makenzie) Smithson, Shelby Smithson, and Mallory Smithson and her fiancé, Chandler Minton;
And his great grandchildren: Rhett Smithson and Chassie-Claire Smithson.

Rev. Paul Ganther is officiating.

He died Friday, July 5, 2024, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

A native of Christian County, he was born August 4, 1945, the son of late William Carver Smithson and Alice Elizabeth Cayce Smithson.

He was a farmer and would proudly say he farmed since the age of three.

He was a member of Liberty Christian Church where he served as a elder for over 40 years and also served as the assistant Sunday School Superintendent. He was active in the original local chapter of the National Farmers Organization.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Campbell.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Liberty Christian Church.
