Greenville Road Reopened After Road Work

A portion of Greenville Road that was closed on Tuesday due to a hole in the road over a culvert reopened Wednesday afternoon after emergency work was completed.

State transportation officials said a deteriorated drainage pipe led to a small void beneath the road, which caused a depression to form in the asphalt and create a hole, much like a pothole. They said the deterioration of the cross drains can occur because of the age of the pipe, the weather, or other environmental factors.

Christian County maintenance crews cut through the road on Tuesday to remove and replace the pipe and covered it with asphalt base material which had to be set overnight. Crews then went back Wednesday morning to complete the resurfacing work.

The road closure on Tuesday did disrupt some afternoon school bus routes but no extreme delays were reported.
