City of Hopkinsville officials announced earlier this week the seeking of a general manager for Hopkinsville Solid Waste Enterprise.
Among the oversight of the city’s solid waste operations, the GM will be responsible for supervising more than 50 full-time employees, the handling of residential and commercial waste collection, disposal and recycling.
Top priorities include:
— Efficient service.
— Compliance with laws.
— And the maintenance of customer satisfaction.
Annual pay is expected to be north of $110,000, and as such comes with more responsibilities, like:
— The budgeting and purchasing needed for operations;
— The handling of public relations and resolution of customer concerns;
— The ensuring of safety and compliance with all regulations;
— And being available 24/7 for all emergencies.
Prior qualifications must involve a bachelor’s degree in a business or related field, or five years of public works management experience, 10 years of progressive responsibility in solid waste management, and a Kentucky Certified Landfill Manager’s Certificate with a CDL Class “A.”
Interested candidates must submit by email a cover letter, resume and a list of at least five job-related references (with email and phone numbers), as well as salary history, no later than October 7.
Interviews are expected to be conducted in late October.

Sources indicate Hopkinsville officials do have in their hands multiple signatures, and a letter of support, for current interim manager Bryan Silver — who was appointed following the departures of both Tony Sicari and Richard Hopper.
Silver was introduced to the Hopkinsville City Council and its Committee of the Whole this past April, where he expressed gratitude for “trust, confidence and the opportunity” to serve the citizens of Hopkinsville.
