With an anticipated November grand opening for Hopkinsville’s Rural King, the farm and home chain has announced the closure and relocation of its Powderly store.

In an email sent to Rural King Rewards members Tuesday, officials said it was closing its Powderly location in December and relocating it to Hopkinsville. The company said this move will “optimize the company’s retail footprint, allowing it to better serve customers and communities across a wider geographic area.”

In the same email, the company said it would open 15 new stores in the next 13 months, creating 750 new jobs.

Rural King began in 1960 in Mattoon, Illinois, and has grown to more than 130 stores in 13 states.

The email did not mention if employees from the Powderly store were offered opportunities to work at the Hopkinsville or Madisonville stores.
