Through H/Advisors Abernathy and its vice president, Alexandra Clements, Jennie Stuart Health’s Board of Trustees has released a statement to the public — addressing the letter of intent between the Christian County hospital and Deaconess.
It notes that:
+ The board is “eager to engage with members of the community around the opportunities for JSH together with Deaconess,” and intends to hold an open meeting at JSH in the coming weeks, in order to discuss how this “important next step” would allow their organization to “accelerate its mission.”
+ The organization “has navigated many of the financial pressures facing hospital systems today,” but that long-term success “requires [them] to reflect and make thoughtful, strategic decisions.” JSH reportedly has “the financial foundation needed” to sustain its high standard of care for the “near-term,” there is “a limit” on their ability to invest in the capabilities and technology required of a leading health system.
+ They are being “proactive,” taking action to “strengthen the organization,” and this discussion is about how Jennie Stuart can have the “greatest impact not just tomorrow, but over the next 100 years.” The proposed affiliation with Deaconess would “focus on opportunities to enhance the quality of care, while creating a supportive and engaging environment for [its] employees.”
The statement goes on to say that what makes Jennie Stuart great “will not change,” and that Deaconess is a “like-minded, non-profit healthcare system” that “understands the importance of quality local healthcare and community-focused decision making.”
The intention, it closes, is for Jennie Stuart to continue its operations with “a local board of directors,” while retaining influence over local operations.
