Trial Date Set for Couple Charged With Infant’s Death

After a September trial date was vacated, a new one was set on Wednesday for the Fort Campbell couple charged with the death of their 15-month-old child.

Alexander and Dakota Heck are charged with the murder of the 15-month-old child who, along with the mother, was living with the Hecks in southern Christian County. The investigation determined the child died of blunt force trauma while in the home with Alexander Heck.

Doug Moore represents Alexander Heck, while Stephanie Richey Mize represents Dakota. They, along with assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Gilbert, told Judge Andrew Self that a decision had not been made on whether the couple would be tried together or separately.

Alexander Heck was indicted last year on a murder charge. He was stationed at Fort Campbell at the time of the child’s death, with Heck’s commanding officer testifying during a bond reduction hearing last year the defendant was a “high-performance soldier” who was in charge of training his troop in how to properly prepare vehicles for transport by helicopters.

Dakota Heck was indicted by a grand jury in May, with police alleging she engaged in wanton conduct that created a grave risk to the child, identified by only initials on the indictment.
