Raymond E. Shively, age 77, of Hopkinsville, KY, formerly of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. He was born on January 13, 1947, in Whitesville, KY, to the late James Clifton and Mae Veronica (Thompson) Shively.
Ray was a cherished member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was a proud US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as a radarman aboard the USS Dennis J Buckley, exemplifying courage and dedication. After retiring from both BellSouth and the Hopkinsville Housing Authority, he found great joy in spending time with his family and friends. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years, as he was a lifelong member of the VFW Post #1913. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Shively.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 54 years, Linda Ray Shively of Hopkinsville, KY; his son, David (Grace Anzelmo) Shively of Nashville, TN; Amy (Chris) Behrends of Adu Dhabi, UAE; his brothers, Jim (Jean) Shively of Owensboro, KY, Bill (Brenda) Shively of Mission Hills, KS; his sisters, Sister Jacqueline Shively O.S.B. of Ferdinand, IN, Beverly Sablik of San Antonio, TX; and his two grandchildren, Mackenzie Behrends and Nicholas Shively; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Graveside Services with military honors will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with Rev. Amanda Groves officiating and burial to follow. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle arrangements for their loved one.
