Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced Wednesday the random selection of 12 counties that will undergo an inquiry following the 2024 General Election.

Among them: Trigg County. The others: Calloway, Jefferson, Daviess, Jessamine, Boyle, Barren, Warren, Campbell, Metcalfe, Edmonson and Lincoln.

Coleman said the purpose of this measure is to “protect the integrity of the ballot box,” and the inquiries will be conducted by the Attorney General’s Department of Criminal Investigations, in order to determine if any irregularities took place during the process.

Coleman also said that his office remains committed Kentucky’s elections are “free, fair and secure,” and that this effort is collaborative with county clerks, election officials and law enforcement.

Potential election law violations are received throughout the year through the state’s Election Fraud Hotline. Those complaints can be viewed online, and this year, more than 700 messages were received — including almost 350 on Election Day.

Once these 12 independent investigations are complete, the findings are presented to grand juries of each audited county.

Wednesday’s lottery was live-streamed for public viewing.
