Christian County Public Schools has announced Aniyah Lewis and Mollie Goode as the next two student-elected representatives to serve on the Board of Education.

Both were chosen by their peers at each high school, and the duo will attend monthly board meetings, gatherings and events. They are, however, non-voting members, and thus will not participate in closed-session meetings.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel noted that student board members play a vital role in making sure all voices are heard and valued. Now in the third year of this option, this initiative highlights the district’s commitment to recognizing students as key stakeholders. Their perspectives into decision-making, Bentzel added, is essential.

A senior at Christian County High School, Aniyah is the daughter of Sharnetta Lewis. She attends Gateway Academy, where she is a scholar in the Health Science Pathway. She is a member of the Student Superintendent Advisory Council, the Student Ambassador program, BSU, HOSA, FBLA, Drama Club and photography, and her post-secondary goals are to attend Texas Southern University and double major in pre-law and real estate with a minor in business.

A senior at Hopkinsville High School, Mollie is the daughter of Anna Goode and the late Troy Goode. She has a passion for agriculture, leadership and community service. She is an active member in the National FFA Organization and is currently serving as both the president of her local chapter and as vice president of the Pennyrile region. She is a co-op student, and works with local radio station WHOP. She plans to attend Murray State University next fall, and major in agricultural business.

Lewis and Goode were sworn in during Thursday night’s board meeting, and will serve through the rest of the school year.
