A Hopkinsville man was charged in connection to an investigation into counterfeit money being used at a Hopkinsville store Tuesday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 66-year-old George Merritt used five fake $100 bills to put money on his debit card at Walgreens.

The money was reportedly marked as fake and not legal to use.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
