A Hopkinsville woman was charged with assault and drug possession during a traffic stop on South Fowler Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say 36-year-old Sabrina Coleman was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for failing to use a turn signal, and during the stop, drug paraphernalia could be seen in plain view by officers.
After further investigation, Coleman was reportedly found to have three syringes containing an unspecified drug and aluminum foil containing another unspecified drug.
Police say while patting her down, one of the officer’s gloves and skin were punctured by a syringe that was not capped after they warned her and asked her about having any needles on her.
Coleman was arrested and charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
