A police officer was rushed to the hospital after he was attacked by a dog on West 2nd Street in Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say an officer was trying to bring two dogs back to their home that were walking around the neighborhood when one attacked him, and he discharged his gun several times to stop the attack, which killed the dog.
The home located at the intersection of South Cleveland Avenue has signs stating, “Beware of the dog.” However, police say the dogs were running loose in the neighborhood when they were located.
The officer was rushed to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment for what appeared to be severe hand injuries. Law enforcement has not released any information about possible charges for the dog owner at this time.
