Cadiz Police Department Expecting Full Staff By July

January was, respectfully, a slow month for the Cadiz Police Department.

And that’s according to Cadiz Police Chief Tyler Thomas, who during Tuesday night’s Cadiz City Council meeting gave a full report — while announcing some good news coming at the end of the fiscal year.

In the last 30 days, the department has only had to investigate eight cases, leading to four arrests.

There were more than 500 calls for service, 20 traffic stops were made and 14 citations issued. There were 16 total alarm calls in the stretch, and of the five collisions observed, only one involved an injury.

Thomas also said while inclement weather created hazardous snow conditions and some peril for drivers, only one of the five crashes was a result of the road.

Staffing, he added, is coming along well, as multiple interviews have been conducted with candidates whom have applied for the open patrol position.

Thomas also noted that the new Madisonville academy facility build is well under way, but it is only handling one graduating class at a time because of the need to use the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Madisonville Police Department training room — until its full construction is complete.

The hope, he added, is for 125 to 150 cadets to annually graduate from Madisonville for the time being, until the ribbon is cut on full operations.

Still, he said Madisonville’s efforts will go a long way in the Commonwealth.

By comparison, Richmond graduates roughly 5-to-7 classes per year.
