Set to begin construction this spring and complete this fall, the coming “Tween Center” Project has big things in store for sixth and seventh graders at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hopkinsville-Christian County.

Between its existing cafeteria and gymnasium, the Tween Center will have an attached hallway, storage unit, food program and “Care Closet” — which will provide support to Club families who might not otherwise have access to basic necessities, while helping Club kids feel comfortable and focused on site and in school.

This includes the providing of clothes, hygiene products and food to families experiencing temporary hardships.

The new construction and renovation will also increase the size of the Family Impact Center, which was first built in 2021 in order to help folks in their most trying times.

Terrence Davis, executive director, has repeatedly urged that the Tween Center will be tailored to the specific interests of sixth and seventh graders — who find themselves perhaps too old to mingle with elementary kids, but much too young to mix with eighth graders and high schoolers. These activities will focus on the fostering of social skills and personal growth in a nurturing environment.

More specifically, the Tween Center will have academic supports, a focus on STEM learning, leadership and character development, arts and crafts, sports, and more.
