A deputy with the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office is recovering in a Nashville hospital after being shot three times during a pursuit Tuesday morning.

Kentucky State Police say Trigg County joined a pursuit involving Kentucky State Police with a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Jermaine Jackson Jr. of Florissant, Missouri, who was fleeing at over 100 mph on Interstate 24.

The pursuit reportedly ended in a field off Broadbent Boulevard when Jackson crashed his vehicle and fled on foot.

Police say Jackson then shot at Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies, hitting Deputy Zach White three times. White was identified by emergency personnel as being the deputy injured.

Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree says they returned fire fatally wounding Jackson.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner’s Office. White was flown to a Nashville hospital but is listed in stable condition.

Acree is expected to release an official statement about the event on Wednesday.

White started his law enforcement career in 2020 at the Murray Police Department, then went to the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office in 2024.

White was also promoted to sergeant at the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office in January.
