The community celebrated the birthday of a beloved local broadcast legend with a parade on Thursday afternoon.
Willie Wilson, the man responsible for signing WKDZ-AM on the air on April 8, 1966, turned 95.
A wave of memories washed over the East Cadiz Baptist Church parking lot as parade participants prepared to step off.
John L. Street Library Director Pam Metts remembers a time working at the former M and M Shake Shop, which Wilson frequented.
The parade drove past Wilson’s Cadiz residence, where he was joined by his wife Joann, and other family members.
Wilson expressed his gratitude for the birthday wishes he received.
His daughter, Donna Jo Brashears, conveyed her appreciation to the community.
“Uncle Willie” spent approximately ten years hosting the morning show on WPKY in Princeton, complementing his later work with WKDZ-AM.
