Officials with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office have announced the return of the Citizens’ Sheriff Academy for 2025 — which will once again serve as an engaging and educational opportunity for residents to gain first-hand insight on local law enforcement operations.
It is a free, 12-hour program that provides behind-the-scenes looks at daily deputy duties, investigative techniques, traffic stops, law enforcement tactics, and even offers simulated court sessions.
Furthermore, it is designed to foster stronger community relationships, and the academy offers a chance at interactive and informative experiences.
Though slated for 6-8 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 13 through May 29 at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, spots are limited — and the application process opened this week.
In a written statement, Sheriff Tyler DeArmond urged that community engagement is “important,” and that the ultimate goal with this effort is to connect with citizens, while offering a deeper understanding of the work that takes place.
Open to Christian County residents 18 years and older and to those who pass a background check, only 20 spots are available — making applications a first-come, first-serve basis.
In-person applications can be picked up at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office at 701 West 7th Street in Hopkinsville, open weekdays from 8 AM until 4:30 PM.
An online application can be found at christiancountyso.com, but it must be printed and returned to the main office.
Any late submissions will be placed on standby in case of cancellations, and to graduate, participants must attend all sessions.
