Freddie Lee Sweeney, age 82, of Hopkinsville, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, April 7, 2025, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home, with Mr. Phil Dunn officiating, and burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service hour at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Mr. Sweeney was born on March 30, 1943, in Graham, KY, and grew up in Greenville, KY, the son of the late George and Lettie Sweeney. Freddie retired as a Civil Service worker from Fort Campbell. After retiring, he worked several part-time jobs and was always a servant to those in need. His friends, family, and his grandchildren’s love ran deep in his blood. He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his son and best friend, Ty Travis Sweeney.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carole Cook Sweeney of Hopkinsville; his daughter, Tracia (Wayne) Gray of Hopkinsville; a daughter-in-law, Sara Sweeney Johnson (Ken) of Hopkinsville; five grandchildren, Jenna Gray and Alden Gray of Hopkinsville, Conley Sweeney and Claudia Sweeney of Nashville and Taylor Gray (Parker) of Goodlettsville; his two sisters, Ann Conn (Garland) of Louisville, Midge Milam (George) of Benton; and his brother, Wayne Sweeney (Lequeta) of Festus, MO.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Southside Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
