The commitment and community service of the founders of WKDZ are still celebrated as the radio station celebrates 59 years of broadcasting to Cadiz, Trigg County, and the surrounding area.
Edge Media Group President and CEO Beth Mann took time to salute the 10 original stockholders of WKDZ and the original parent company Barkley Lake Broadcasting Tuesday morning.
Mann says that community service was evident when the WKDZ team provided vital coverage during the recent round of severe thunderstorms and flooding last week.
Although there are many alternates forms of music and entertainment, she says local radio continues to be important in the communities served.
WKDZ was signed on the air by General Manager Willie Wilson on the morning of April 8, 1966. Wilson recently celebrated his 95th birthday with a community drive by celebration. He thanked the community for the love and support.
The original stockholders of Barkley Lake Broadcasting included Virginia Alexander, Joe B. Clement, Mrs. A. K. Goodwin, James D. Hayes, Ruth Humphries, Robert L. Meadows, Prentice Oliver, Carolyn Richardson, Wilburn Wilson, and John Woodruff.
WKDZ is part of Edge Media Group that became Kentucky’s first employee-owned radio and media company in 2024. Edge Media Group is under the leadership of President and CEO Beth Mann.
