Nina Thomas Alderson, age 91, of Cadiz, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 7, 1933, on the banks of Donaldson Creek in Trigg County, she was the only daughter of the late Preston Thomas and Mary Bridges Thomas.
Nina attended Maple Grove School through the 8th grade before graduating from Trigg County High School in 1952. After high school, she went to work at Trigg County Hospital as a medical laboratory assistant, prompting her to pursue a 27-year career as a medical laboratory technician and x-ray technician.
On September 12, 1953, Nina married Frank Alderson, the love of her life, and Nina was a devoted wife and mother to their three children as they moved to several different states for Frank’s military career. After he retired from the military, they settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, for some time before returning to her roots in Trigg County. Throughout her life, Nina was an active member of her community, living by the motto of “service before self”. She was an active and faithful member of Maple Grove Baptist Church, as well as a member of the James Thomas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Thomas-Bridges Association.
Very artistic and creative, Nina’s hands were rarely still as she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and coloring, and she was a whiz at working puzzles. She loved music, whether old hymns, Bing Crosby, or the Marshall Tucker Band. Above all, she loved being surrounded by her family and her role as “Mammie”.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Harry C. Thomas, Bobby G. Thomas, Buster James Thomas, and Michael Thomas; her daughter-in-law, Vickie Alderson; and a great-granddaughter, Izabella Alderson.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Frank T. Alderson, Sr. of Cadiz; her children, Terry Alderson of Cadiz, Frank Alderson, Jr. (Terri) of Cincinnati, OH, and Kathy Hausermann (Bob) of Goshen, OH; six grandchildren, Terry Wayne Alderson, Derrick Alderson (Melissa), Kelley Alderson (Lisa), Andrew Alderson (Alicia), Heidi Anderson (Rob), and Heather Gamble (Tony); great-grandchildren, Derrick “Little D” Alderson, Destini Rose Hamburger (Matthew), Alex Alderson, Mabyl Alderson, Rosie, Jace, Cameron Anderson (Maddy), Alyssa Anderson, Nick Gamble, and Alex Gamble; and sisters-in-law, Eunice Thomas and Inga Thomas, both of Cadiz.
Funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 11, 2025, with Dr. Mike Rust officiating. Burial will follow in Drewry Bridges Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the service hour of 2:00 PM.
