The Tennessee Valley Authority has announced preferred locations for a new switching station and 20-mile transmission line in Logan and Todd counties to support regional growth and improve power reliability. The project reflects TVA’s commitment to building infrastructure that ensures affordable, resilient electricity — a key factor in maintaining America’s competitive edge.

The new Stokes Switching Station will be built just north of Hadden Road on the west side of Old Trenton Road. The transmission line will run east to the existing Cave Springs Switching Station and use mostly steel H-frame structures within a new 100-foot-wide right of way.

TVA selected the route with the least anticipated impact, incorporating public input from an in-person open house on December 5, 2024, and a virtual open house that continued through January 6, 2025. TVA also evaluated environmental, social, and engineering factors. A National Environmental Policy Act review is still pending.

TVA plans to begin surveys in fall 2025, acquire easements in summer 2026, and begin construction in summer 2027. Completion is expected by fall 2028. Property owners along the route will retain ownership and receive fair market compensation for easements. For more details and a project map, visit tva.com/transmissionprojects.
