IRS Offering Extensions For Kentucky’s Impacted Citizens

The IRS has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in all of Kentucky impacted by severe storms, flooding, and landslides beginning February 14.

Affected taxpayers now have until November 3, to file federal returns and make tax payments.

This applies to:
2024 individual income tax returns and payments normally due April 15
IRA and HSA contributions for 2024
Estimated tax payments due April 15, June 16, and September 15

Business filings, including:
Payroll and excise tax returns due April 30, July 31, and October 31
Partnership and S corp returns due March 17
Corporate and fiduciary returns due April 15
Tax-exempt organization returns due May 15
Penalties on payroll and excise tax deposits due between February 14 and March 3 will be abated if deposits are made by March 3.

The IRS will automatically identify taxpayers in the disaster area and apply the relief. However, if you’re affected but live or operate outside Kentucky, or your tax professional is based in Kentucky and holds your records, call the IRS Disaster Hotline at 866-562-5227.

Relief also applies to:
Government or nonprofit relief workers in the area
Individuals killed or injured in the disaster while visiting the area
If you get a late filing or payment penalty notice for a due date within this period, call the number on the notice to request abatement.
