Officials with Heritage Christian Academy in Hopkinsville announced Tuesday the selection of Lexi Lyon to the prestigious Governor’s Scholars Program.
She most recently finished up time as a Joy Closet volunteer in the Hopkinsville-Christian County Youth Leadership program. And along with her academic prowess, Lyon served as a key veteran for Lady Warriors basketball this past season, and served as an important rotation piece for the Second Region champion volleyball team.
To apply, students must be Kentucky residents in 11th grade, return to a Kentucky school next year, and have taken the ACT, PSAT, or SAT in grades 9–11. Selected scholars attend a free summer program focused on learning, community, and personal growth—no grades, no competition.
This year, the program will be held on the campuses of Centre College in Danville, Morehead State University in Morehead, and Murray State University in Murray.
GSP is fully funded by the state and private donors, covering tuition, room, board, and most supplies. Scholars live in campus residence halls with assigned roommates and participate in classes, co-curricular activities, and community events. They balance time among three academic focus areas, chosen during application, and enjoy structured social activities like performances, athletic events, and a student talent showcase.
Strict rules ensure a safe, respectful environment: no drugs, alcohol, vehicles, or weapons. Cell phones are restricted to residence halls, and curfews are enforced.
