Officials with Sanctuary, Inc., and Milkweed health & harmony emporium announced this week the arrival of “The Chair Project: Elevating Art for Sanctuary.”
Local artists have been putting their creative spin on furniture for a good cause. From 4-8 PM this Friday at Milkweed, a silent auction and art event benefiting Sanctuary, Inc., will take place — more than 60 creatively-altered chairs, both funny and functional, on display and available for bidding.
Milkweed is located at 202 East 9th Street in downtown Hopkinsville.
Silent auction bidding begins at 4 PM and closes at 7 PM. Awards for “Best of Show,” “Runner-Up” and “Honorable Mention” will be announced at 6 PM, followed by special recognition for the artist whose chair raises the most money.
The event was founded by local artist Julie-Anna Carlisle, who said the chair “symbolizes the support and comfort Sanctuary, Inc., provides to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.”
Sanctuary, Inc., Executive Director Heather Lancaster said the event should serve as “a beautiful example of community partnership,” adding that it helps highlight their work during Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Attendees will be able to enjoy refreshments, ambient live music, while browsing the full selection of chairs.
Sponsors and contributors include Milkweed health & harmony emporium, Planters Bank, Trio Signs, Melon Local, Southern Printing, The Trophy House, Hopkinsville Brewing Company, and more.
